This image is part of a series of new portfolio pieces to reflect the skills that I have now. This means that I go through the whole process pretty methodically – I treated last year’s Inktober as the “sketch phase” to generate 31 ideas. For every idea that I decide to make into a full illustration, I make 4 color sketches that help me decide what kind of colors work best with the mood that I want to create. Only after that do I make the full illustration with all the bells and whistles.
