World Setting

This page has been created to give you some insight in the world the characters of Lost Trace Mission live in.
Please note that I have tried to keep the ranks etc. as canon as possible with the US army today, though I am no expert on army or military ranks, names, policies, traditions, habits etc. If you feel something doesn't stroke with reality, please send me an e-mail (rengint(AT)rengintumer(DOT)com) with your remark and preferrably an explanation (I'd very much like to know why I was wrong). Do not flame me, as you will not accomplish anything with it and it doesn't help either of us.

Global situation

New Gaia, 2050. The 5 continents have signed the Gaia Pact, after the war with America and Iraq has ended in 2012. America and Europe and Russian Asia have merged into New Gaia. The rest of Asia, Africa and Australia have dissolved into the AAA-Union, or AU for short. No war has occured for 38 years.

Vampires

Vampires are present in the whole world, though most of them are now in “America”. The first step in their coup d’état is overthrowing the army so they have the free hand at the rest of the country. Biting humans is forbidden and strictly controlled, but more and more vampires are “recruited” and at the same time the army numbers slink. The vampires namely target mostly soldiers. These recruits then turn against the army because a part of the blood is exchanged when being bitten. Their ideas change to something similar to the one who has bitten them. The same happened to Dimitri when he was younger.

US military

Personnel policy
The army takes on a new batch of recruits every other month. This used to be once a year, but has increased since a large number of soldiers have started deserting the army without notice. The new batches used to receive a training of a year, but this amount of time has also been changed: it has been cut down to a crash course of a month and a half. Towards the end of the training, the recruits are told of the vampires that reside in America. Kenneth is told earlier because he is put on the Lost Trace Mission team.

Facilities
The army premises lays directly at the sea. There is a large beach after a ridge of quite steep cliffs of about 10 meters high. Stairs are cut into the stone, and poles are hammered at the sides, which are connected by thick rope. Facilities at the premises include three gyms (suitable for boxing, fitness and swimming), a cafeteria, a library, an office that facilitates lieutenants’ to generals’ offices, a secretariat and a post office, barracks for cadets and soldiers, hangars for ships and airplanes, a workshop for repairs, a weaponry and a garage for tanks and other wheeled means of transportation.

The Rosy Suckling

The Rosy Suckling is the army personnel’s regular hangout. When the soldiers are on leave, they pay a visit to this pub/brothel to unwind. The finest girls of the country reside at the Suckling. However, it is also one of the cleanest and most decent places in it’s branch. The owner of this brothel is an ex-soldier, a woman named Rachel. She has a rough history, and is quite frightening.
Fun fact: All the girls are named after a precious stone.
